COUPLES THERAPY IN BATH

Supporting connection, trust and healing with a warm, integrative approach

Are you and your partner struggling to establish a deeper emotional bond? Do you find yourselves avoiding conflict, people-pleasing, becoming passive aggressive, shutting down, or repeating the same arguments without resolution?

You may feel overwhelmed by life’s responsibilities — children, work, caring for elderly parents, illness, loss, financial pressure or other life-stage stresses — and notice the connection between you beginning to fade. The spark may feel distant, conversations may become tense or defensive, and you may be left wondering whether your partner really understands you anymore.

Sometimes relationship patterns begin to echo painful dynamics from the past, including experiences from family life, previous relationships or earlier emotional wounds.

You are probably not here because you are ready to give up. You may be here because you feel stuck in a cycle and want to understand what keeps happening between you. Couples therapy offers a space to slow this process down, explore the relational pattern, and begin working towards more honest communication, repair and connection.

How couples therapy can help

Couples therapy can support you to understand and begin changing draining relational cycles. Together, we look at what happens between you when tension, hurt, fear or defensiveness enters the relationship.

This may include exploring:

  • communication difficulties

  • repeated arguments

  • emotional distance or shutdown

  • people-pleasing, criticism or avoidance

  • loss of trust

  • intimacy and sexual difficulties

  • boundaries and self-esteem

  • past experiences that shape present relationship patterns

  • repair after hurt, betrayal or disconnection

The work is not about blaming one partner or deciding who is right. It is about understanding the pattern between you, recognising each partner’s contribution, and developing more effective ways of speaking, listening, repairing and responding.

My approach

My approach is warm, active and relational. I aim to create a therapeutic space where both partners can feel heard, while also helping you notice the patterns that keep you stuck.

My primary framework for couples work is Relational Life Therapy, developed by Terry Real. This approach pays close attention to relational patterns, accountability, repair, self-esteem, boundaries and the ways couples move into disconnection under stress.

I also integrate ideas from the Developmental Model, created by Dr Ellyn Bader and Dr Peter Pearson, which brings together attachment theory, differentiation and boundaries. This supports a more tailored approach to your needs as a couple.

When working with sexual and intimacy challenges, I also draw on Passion & Presence® by Maci Daye — a mindful, body-based and experiential approach that supports couples to explore desire, erotic connection, pleasure, vulnerability and blocks to intimacy with care and respect

Areas I commonly work with

I support couples with a range of relationship difficulties, including:

  • establishing healthy boundaries and nurturing self-esteem

  • enhancing communication and resolving difficulties

  • breaking dysfunctional patterns of behaviour

  • healing from infidelity and betrayal

  • rebuilding trust after breaches

  • cultivating intimacy and rekindling passion

  • sexual and intimacy challenges

  • financial challenges within the relationship

  • parenting, co-parenting and issues related to children

  • life-stage stressors, including parenting, midlife, retirement, redundancy, illness and loss

  • divorce, separation or uncertainty about the future

  • narcissistic dynamics or one-up/one-down relational patterns

  • emotional fulfilment and meeting each other’s needs

Couples Therapy Session Formats and Fees

Couples therapy sessions are typically offered on a weekly or fortnightly basis. Sessions are usually 90 minutes in length, which provides enough space for both partners to be heard while allowing time to explore relational patterns and dynamics in depth.

I offer several session formats:

£185 – Weekly or fortnightly 90-minute session
A regular format that gives both partners time and space to explore relationship patterns, improve communication and work towards lasting change.

£125 – Weekly 60-minute session
Suitable for couples who would benefit from more frequent support, particularly when working through a specific issue or a period of increased tension.

£260 – Extended 120-minute session
This longer format can be helpful for couples wishing to engage in deeper, more focused work, or when navigating more complex challenges.

During periods of increased difficulty, additional or longer sessions may be discussed where clinically appropriate.

If you are unsure which format is right for you, I am happy to help you decide during an initial conversation

Initial consultation

To explore working together, you are welcome to get in touch to arrange either a free 15-minute Zoom call or a 90-minute in-person or online consultation.

The initial conversation gives us an opportunity to think together about what brings you to therapy, what you are hoping for, and whether couples therapy feels like the right fit.

Couples Intensives

Some couples want a more focused and uninterrupted therapeutic space than weekly or fortnightly sessions can provide.

For this reason, I also offer one-day, two-day and three-day Couples Intensives in Bath. These are designed for couples who want dedicated time to understand what keeps happening between them and work with relational patterns in more depth.
